A shirt of memories VIII

Almost 13 years ago I found out that my oldest son and I had coeliakie. A disease that requires a life-long special diet without the possibility to cheat. At the start it was a steep learning curve. Now it is just as normal as can be with the advantages and disadvantages it brings with it.

This piece stands for the years I trained and was trainer in taekwondo. It learned me a lot and because of that I'm glad I spent my time there. One could say both memories are about perseverance.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Books

These four books are right beside my chair for the moments that need to be filled with something interesting to read or look at, to learn or be inspired by. I feel so lucky that the library provides such a huge collection of books in different languages just to be picked up.

Hope you too find some interesting summer reading.

New samples for my bullion knot ledger

A new idea popped into my head and I thought I'd give it a try. They are a new step for an idea that I already have for years but never thought I could make it. Slowly but surely it seems like I'm getting there after all. Happy days ...

Have a great start of your week.

A shirt of memories VII

Today I have a collage of pictures for you since so many new parts of the shirt are ready. Will give you a quick walk through: L&J are the first letters of my boys names. The little car is a representation of the car I went with to Austria many, many years ago and til this day give me the giggles when I tell about the adventures it gave us. (Even writing this sentence makes me smile).
The shoe is for all the hiking adventures and who can live without books? .. Not me. The deer ran me almost over when our dog Dikkie was chasing it. I lived on Helgenæs at the time and that was the first time I moved to Denmark.
The moustache is for the kindest man who gave me a home when I didn't have one and I couldn't resist to make one for my nickname amoung my bloggyfriends, the little elephant.

Have a wonderful weekend and I'll be back on monday again.

A shirt of memories VI

Since I moved to Denmark twice and now already living eleven years on my Danish peninsula means that a new symbol needed to be made. Yes, this one is for Denmark!

During Easter 2017 I had my first exhibition and I made a couple of seals with paper plates. This one mimicks them because it was a very interesting experience.

This one is also an oldie. Yes, you guessed right, this one also appeared on Soul Food. Can you remember what it meant? This one is for my dear husband. He is a chemical engineer and if you check the periodic table you know how precious he is for me.

Enjoy your weekend.

A shirt of memories V

Babysteps! ... Who doesn't make them daily!

On my Soul Food cloth this symbol also found its place. The mystery of life but one I can always count on and so I had to make one for this shirt too.

My love for helleristninger is no secret and this one is probably my favorite one. This one is doodled, painted, stitched and pinpricked more than any other one.

Have a great start of your week.

A shirt of memories IV

This little bat is a very personal symbol that I doodled while being on the phone with a dear friend. Our friendship came to an end, the memories and this little bat are the only happy reminders.

The last one of this week are my blocks of life simply because living is building with the blocks of experience, talents and passion.

That leaves me to wish you a great weekend filled with sunshine and I'll be back on monday.

A shirt of Memories III

This symbol was created first in 2011 and through the years I made all kinds of different versions. It symbolizes the start of a relationship.

This jug isn't around that long, still it is one of my favorites. It symbolizes giving to me and that's part of everyone's life.

That's all for today.

Enjoy yourself.

A shirt of memories II

At the moment I'm stitching and stitching and stitching. The picture above is the Ægishjálmr symbol. The meaning of it is protection and like every other human on this planet I too have times in which protection was/is needed.

Captured my little heaven, sitting outside with a cup of tea and some pieces of embroidery. The one in the middle was ready. It means being part of a community, a connection between people and as you guess there are numerous memories locked in this one.

In the other photograph you could see I started a tulip and here is the end result. This is my symbol for the years I lived in The Netherlands and for being Dutch.

Well that's all for now. Hope you do enjoy all these small embroideries on paper.

Have a great week.

A shirt of memories

The leaf-symbol is one that keeps coming around. It reminds me of my eye-haemorrhage, it is a perfect symbol for the time when I lost one of my twins and when a door was closed behind me never to be opened again at 19. Therefore I chose to combine these three experiences. Each leaf is in a different stitch, stemstitch, back- and running stitch.

The seven stands for the influence everyone of us has on the next 7 generations. For example the habits we have and pass on to our kids, our values and daily actions. Used pinpricked insert-collage with a running stitch around it to embellish it.

Have a wonderful weekend!

A new project: A shirt of memories

The other day I was thinking about memories in general and below you can read some of the notes I made.

Memories, we all have them. They have a big influence on our daily existence, they are the starting point of habits, maybe one could even say: they are the foundation of our life. As a newborn baby we have a clean slate but experiences teach us how to manoeuvre between the wishes and needs we have and the rules of society.
Memories can be a great source of information when it comes to ones strenghts and weaknesses since it provide sufficient examples in all kinds of situations. Still they can also be a trap especially when a person hands out a label, a sticky note and you accept it at the given moment. It becomes nasty when it is never questioned, if one never take their view of life, their values or their state of mind in consideration.
Memories are like an invisible shirt one always wears.

After rereading these notes they felt like a good enough start for a new project and in the photograph above you can see the start of it. I'm very excited and look forward to lots of hours of stitching and pondering about this subject.

Enjoy your wednesday.

Another pouch

You probably remember this pouch of which I got the base as a present. Well, just over a week ago we went for a few days to Germany and just before we left I decided to make pouch for my Bullion knot ledger, It's a wrap. So every chance I got I was adding scraps of cloth. In the collage picture you can see the end result. It is a bit, in another words way, too long but that doesn't bother me. I'm happy with the end result.

Have a great start of your week!

The last few days I have been working with pinpricking and thinking how I can develope this technique further.  The two pieces in the pictures are the ones I like best.
